cookies and jam

max floatation made the trek to vancouver this weekend with the express purpose of gracing jonestown studios with his presence. the jam was the first with the new multi-track fire wire mixer that we’ve tried, and we are happy to report that everything worked beautifully (from the technical point of view, at least). the jams were, as always, full of good variety and fun. there was some nice e-bowing that made it’s way in as well. i’ve included a weird conversation between two german sounding artists – not sure what the hell they were talking about, but it’s worth a laugh, i think…

i have a hard time accounting for the rest

here’s another installment in the trade winds project. this time,
three participants. max floatation, his brother lars, and myself.
this time again, it started with a great guitar lick that max laid
down (heard in the intro). lars then jumped in with a FANTASTIC
beat. a few synth layers, an ebow guitar layer, a rolling bass,
and even a vocoder round out the rest of this track. take a
listen… it sounds really cool.

max and chez jam

here’s a collection of jams from a session max and i enjoyed. i feel like i say this every time, but we really had a great time recording these tracks. there’s something very rewarding about being able to put together an improvised soundscape that is not only listenable, but actually quite good in both quality and content (if we may say so ourselves…. music, as we all know, is highly subjective, and the audience ever fickle. but i digress). each of these were done, as were all moon tunes, in one take. have a listen to these marvelous jams and let us know if you like?

E – Bow jam sesh

well, the world famous EBOW has been added to the jonestown studio barrage of equipment. and wow, what a great gadget. it sounds awesome. i’ve uploaded a little track to serve as a demonstration, and i can definitely see this sound making it’s
way into future chez jonesy and moon tune tracks.

it’s basically a little magnet that activates your guitar strings, and gives a fantastic sound that emulates an acoustic string instrument. have a listen to the little diddy that i’ve recorded and see what you think. i highly recommend you going out and picking one up.

pre wedding jam session

a great little moon tune session took place at jonestown studios in august (first one in a while… summer was quite busy, what with my wedding and all!). this latest jam included daryl simpson, rosco,
max, and chez in a spirited and varied experience. plenty of interesting forages into the bizarre, with guitars, bass, drum
machines, sunths, harmonicas, more synths, and vocals.

i’ve listened to the jams several times now on my own, and there are some really good musical moments. also on that night, we tried something new at the studio. we had a guest run the video camera during a jam (jam 9 to be specific). i’ve taken the video and synced it up with the audio from the jam, and posted the result below. the video quality has been reduced to a manageable size so that it is more easily downloadable here, but upon request, a high res version can be arranged quite easily.

cheers.
